Small Kitchen Ideas
There’s probably a reason you’re doing a kitchen remodel, and it’s because you aren’t quite happy with what you have. Maybe it’s stuck in the past, in which case a remodel is just the right kind of facelift it needs. If you’re unhappy with the size, however, that’s something that can’t really be helped, but a remodel can make things a little easier. Here are a few ways to improve on a small kitchen.
Create an Extra Prep Space
It’s highly likely that you don’t have a lot of counter space, so it’s important to make sure that you do have some extra space to prep food. A kitchen cart located close to the kitchen will work well, but you can also double up and use your dining space for prep.
Your small kitchen may start to feel a little cluttered, and if you have a studio, you may want to divide up your space somewhat. Use dividers to create your own space for the kitchen so you can hide some of the clutter.
Cabinets look big and bulky, and that’s because they kind of are. Cabinets take up a lot of space, so you can possibly consider taking out cabinets and putting in some open shelving. Open shelves allow the eye to look all the way to the wall, which makes the room appear larger.
It’s a well-known design concept that light colors make a room feel larger. That doesn’t mean you can’t have color, but err on the side of lighter colors or brighter hues.
Even though it’s difficult or sometimes impossible to expand your space, you can at least make the space you have more interesting. Pendant lights come in as many varieties as you can imagine, just make sure that you don’t choose one that dwarfs the kitchen. Choose one that suits the size of your space.
If possible, try and keep the look of the appliances consistent, as it will minimize the appearance of clutter.
