Kitchen Spring Cleaning Tips

 In blog, Kitchen

We’re so glad for the spring weather and budding trees and flowers, but with that also comes spring cleaning. Now is the perfect time to take care of your kitchen remodel by tidying up, reorganizing the kitchen, and doing some seasonal maintenance. Here are a few section-by-section tips for Colorado homeowners this spring.

Work From the Top Down

When it comes to cleaning, you want to be efficient. Some people may actually enjoy cleaning, but that doesn’t mean you want to do it all day. One way you can work more efficiently is to dust and clean from the top down. Falling dust will get cleaned up as you go.

Start by dusting the ceiling and the tops of cabinets. Clean any ceiling fans, but note that you may need to wipe down the fan blades with all-purpose cleaner—kitchen fans sometimes collect grease.

Pantry

The first step to a clean pantry is to clear out the pantry completely and get rid of any outdated items. If you see any items you wish to donate, now is a good time to do so. Wipe down the shelves and put back all of the remaining contents.

Countertops

It is absolutely amazing how quickly countertops just collect stuff. Remove everything from the counters, including cookbooks, baskets, and storage containers. Wipe down the countertop then clean with a mild cleaning solution. Avoid using anything abrasive or acidic on granite or other porous materials—you’ll want to avoid etching.

Microwave

Ugh. It’s a chore no one likes to do, but when you neglect your microwave, it takes its revenge in the form of caked-on crud. Heat a cup of water in the microwave for a minute or so, then let it sit—the steam will help loosen food bits. Then gently scrub and wipe away all of the mess.

Details

Deep cleaning means detail work, and that means wiping down handles and getting underneath oven dials. Clean the oven, the inside of the fridge, everything—now is the best time for a sparkling kitchen.
