Why DIY Bathroom Remodels Don’t Work

 In blog

After a while, when you start calculating all the costs that go into remodeling your Denver area home, it’s tempting to just throw your hands up and say that it’s not worth it to try and pay for all this work and do it yourself. While this does sound good on paper, and many people do home DIY jobs on a small scale successfully. However, it’s all about knowing your limits, and bathroom work is beyond the limits of most people. Here’s why.

The DIY Problem

Custom BathroomFor the sake of this discussion, we’re going to assume that you’re not working with anything regarding the plumbing. Even some housework professionals have trouble doing plumbing work, so a layperson definitely should leave things alone. For some other examples of things to try and leave to the professionals, let’s talk about swapping out certain hardware and accessories. There are some things, like faucets and towel racks, that have been made a lot more accessible over recent years, but that’s only the case with the modern ones, not with older ones. People with older houses run the very serious risk of damaging something if they expect it’s going to be as easy to swap out as what they see in a tutorial in a modern house. Somewhere else you want to be careful is with lighting. Make sure you have protection for anything that requires more than just charging a bulb. These tasks can be simple to do, but you don’t want to take a risk in doing so.
